The dictionary definition of commitment is “the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc”. The senior boys volleyball athletes embody “commitment” in order to stay with a team no matter what. Senior Caleb Eddings shared what he believes is the most iconic moment from his high school sports career.
“[y]ou definitely should’ve been there at our first game against Antioch this year. The energy was crazy and intense,” Eddings said.
Eddings is remembering the home opener against cross-town rival, Antioch, where Antioch took the first of three sets and Lakes had a crowd booming comeback winning the next two sets. Through the boys hard work and will to never give up they won the match.
Eddings is a defensive specialist for the team averaging 12 digs a set with a career high game of 24 digs against Cristro Rey Saint Martin, Waukegan.
Within the team there has been ups and downs but overall they have always overcome obstacles as one team. The team has a record of 8-23 currently but seniors Caleb Eddings, Collin Murray, and Nathan Polichnowski are still enjoying their last days as teammates and the preparation before games.
Eddings prepares for games with calm concentration.
Eddings said, “My average pregame ritual is listening to calm music like guitar most notably my favorite artist (Masayoshi Takanaka).”
While warming up with his senior teammate Nathan Polichnowski, Eddings is also preparing for next steps as the season nears an end as he is planning on traveling. He’s excited to play beach volleyball with his senior teammates over the summer. He’s confident that next year’s boys volleyball team will only improve.
