For four years, this dynamic duo has been a constant presence on the softball field, building a connection that goes far beyond the game. From early practices to high-pressure moments, their chemistry has helped shape not only their success, but the identity of the team.
Aubrey Murray and Liv Tautges’s journey began back in 8th grade, when they first started playing together on the Illinois Lightning Travel Softball team. Since then, Murray and Tautges continued to grow both as athletes and as teammates, spending countless hours training, competing, and pushing each other to get better.
“I had played tons of other sports but didn’t love any of them like I love softball now,” Tautges said.
Whether it’s during high school games or travel ball tournaments, the bond is clear every time they step onto the field. Off the field, the duo’s friendship plays just as big of a role. From team dinners to long road trips, the memories they’ve built have strengthened their trust and communication.
We have done it all, whether that be getting ice cream in Alabama everyday, or begging our coach to let her call pitches instead of them,” Murray said.
As seniors, this season carries extra meaning. Every game is another opportunity to leave their mark and finish what they started four years ago. Their leadership has become a guiding force for younger players, showing what dedication and teamwork truly look like. Looking ahead, both athletes have goals beyond high school. Together, their story is one of commitment, friendship, and a shared love for the game.
