As the indoor season comes to a close, track athletes now have the outdoor season on their horizon. After both monumental successes and tough losses, many are reflecting on their performance to prepare themselves for the meets to come. Evelyn Belcher, a Varsity sprinter and long-jumper, is an experienced athlete who not only had a PR, but also broke the school’s 4×200 record with her team. Alongside these achievements, Belcher had the opportunity to compete at the Indoor State Championship alongside some of her teammates this past weekend.Â
“I know a few people that didn’t feel at their best during their events because it was so early in the day. However, they really pushed through and even if they didn’t perform their best it’s still a huge accomplishment to even make it,” Belcher said.Â
She found herself finishing 15th in the long jump against many tough competitors from around the state.
Even though Belcher and others found themselves facing challenges and reaching new goals, she knows that they won’t just stay satisfied with their past achievements. For both those who felt their performance may have been lacking and athletes who were proud of their events, indoor leaves them striving for more.
“I think that the people that didn’t perform their best will push themselves harder to do better during outdoor season,” Belcher said. “However the ones who PRed can set new goals for themselves during outdoor season.”
With their first outdoor meet soon approaching, the girl’s track team is set to put their best foot forward on April 6th at home.
