Some sports require physical activity, while others require mental training. The eSports team has been practicing behind the scenes for the entire year almost every day, not only after school, but also on weekends, and non school hours. They don’t stop the grind whether it’s for Mario Kart or Rocket League. It takes countless hours just to get that chance let alone be the best in the state for Mario Kart, with the last tournament of the year our Mario Kart team proved that they can be the best team out there and they ended up taking first .

With returning players and new players every year the eSports team has had two that remained captains from freshman year going to junior year. These captains plan on sustaining that role into their senior year. When asking captain Louie Werner and getting his outlook on what it’s like being a captain for an eSports Super Smash Bros team in which he told us

“I love being captain, I get to interact with the whole team as-well as interact with other schools often. Occasionally I have to make tough calls for the team but it’s all part of being captain.” -Louie Werner

A new coach has also come to help our beloved coach Mr. Anderson, and it was safe to say that he fit right in with them. Though at first glance many wouldn’t expect him to be coaching eSports he loved it and shows passion every day at practice, Mr. Landry was offered the position in which he was very excited to join and help, being in over 15 activity clubs at his high school he was familiar with the settings of a smaller space and a good size team.

Within the group of students who are in eSports, there are a few who stand out, one being Alan Zayas Gautier who placed 34th in the state for Super Smash Bros. The other teams have picked up right where he led them, with the Mario Kart team taking first in the State-wide Tournament for 4A brackets. The Mario Kart team looks to continue that run during Sectionals and State.
