Is it Too Early for a Pumpkin Spice Latte?

Envision yourself coming home from a school day full of endless ‘get to know you’ activities. You rip off your backpack and can almost hear your shoulders scream at the relief of your new school supplies. You make your way to the backyard where a pool promises to alleviate you from the mid August heat. Just as you slide open the door, you are embraced by the wafting aroma of a Pumpkin Spice Latte coming from the coffee chain down the street. What is your initial reaction? To engulf your senses with the smell of chlorine and sunscreen, or to throw on your cardigan and reach for your wallet?

As of August 24, Starbucks has dropped their signature Pumpkin Spice Latte along with other fall themed beverages and snacks. This has sparked a lot of debate between summer and fall fanatics.

Some may believe that summer seems to be too short. It can be argued that the release of the PSL in August just unnecessarily speeds up the transition into fall. Summer should be taken full advantage of. Therefore, fall drinks should not be offered until fall truly begins.

On the other hand, some are just too eager for the new season to begin. The idea of hay rides and horror movies bring joyous excitement. What better way to channel that excitement than a Pumpkin Spice Latte?

Personally, I believe that it is ridiculous to experience a fall delicacy in the hottest month of the year. A PSL should be enjoyed in front of a fireplace, preferably by a large window with a view of orange trees, not on a beachfront with sand stuck to your legs and sweat dripping down your forehead.

Nevertheless, whether you prefer the classic Pumpkin Spice Latte in summer or fall, most are excited for this beloved drink.
