President’s Salary

Presidents+Salary

You would think that the person making the most money in America is the leader of the country. You’d be mistaken.

The president’s salary is roughly $400,000 annually. Most athletes earn over 2 million dollars a year. For comparison, LeBron James makes 35.65 million dollar annually.

A deeper look into what determines the president’s salary can be found under Amendment II Section 1 of the United States, set by congress. The amendment allows for the annual pay to stay static throughout the president’s term of office.

On January 1st, 2001, the salary was increased, and broken down into a few sections including, $50,000 expense allowance, a $100,000 nontaxable travel account, and a $19,000 entertainment account. Again, there are non adjustable per term.

In addition, former presidents will be paid a pension, which is stated under the Presidential Allowance Modernization Act, and sets them a limit of $200,000 annually.

Overall, our current president makes his own money in addition to the salary he makes being in office. The money covers expenses, including travel and entertainment. On the other side, athletes’ salaries are determined by contracts, and game time.
