Dance Team Twirls Into Competition Season
The Lakes Community High School Dance Team is hoping to leap toward success this competition season. This season is already unique compared to any other season as for the first time ever at Lakes, a boy is competing on the team. All of the dancers have been working tremendously hard this season after not making it to state the previous year.
“After not qualifying for state last year, many of us chose our team goal as going to state. However, in order to accomplish that, we will need to learn to become and dance as one team out on the floor come sectionals with proper technique and a strong passion for dance.” said Senior Samantha Heft. The team has especially emphasized the aspect of leadership in order to promote a strong sense of comradery.
“The senior class ultimately helps boost team morale and confidence before performances and sets a standard for the underclassmen to want to achieve while providing them with the support and advice to get there.” Heft said.
At their first competition at Mundelein High School, the team placed 13th overall with their kick routine and 9th overall with their jazz routine. Then, at their next competition at Lake Zurich High School they placed 7th and 8th, with the kick scoring higher. Be sure to look out for big things to come from the team this year as they continue their journey to potentially secure a spot in the state competition.
