With fall entering full swing, seasonal flavors and treats are popping up all around us. While going out and trying treats from bakeries and restaurants can be fun, making your own concoctions at home can serve as an enjoyable festive activity and save you some money. Starting your morning with these fall-flavored oatmeal recipes is a great way to incorporate nutrients and tastiness to your day.

Pumpkin Pie Oatmeal

Start your day off with pumpkin pie oatmeal! This recipe is a very fast and easy way to bring some festive flavor to your morning. It can be customizable based on your own spice, sweetness, and flavor preferences. 

½ cup rolled oats

1 cup water

¼ cup canned pumpkin

1 tbs. Maple syrup

Spices (popularly included are cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin pie spices)

 

Start off by preparing ½ cup of oats with 1 cup water, milk, or any nut milk of your choosing. Heat this mixture in the microwave for around 2 minutes or until the liquid is absorbed, you can also cook in a pot over the stovetop. 

 

Once your oatmeal is ready, stir in ¼ cup of canned pumpkin, along with around a tablespoon of maple syrup, and spices to taste. 

 

When everything is mixed together, top with pecans and whipped cream.

 

Cinnamon Apple Oatmeal

 

2 cups of oats

3 ¾ cups water

2 cups small apple chunks

Spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, apple pie spice)

1-2 tbs. brown sugar

 

With a larger recipe like this one, you can make more to share with your family! In a pot, combine 2 cups of oats, 3 ¾ cups water, 2 cups of small apple chunks along with spices to taste.

 

Bring the mixture to a boil, then turn down the heat and allow it to simmer until the apples are tender and the oats have absorbed the liquid.

 

Stir in brown sugar to taste, start with a tablespoon but the necessary amount will vary from apple type and personal preference. 

 

Transfer into serving bowls, top with granola, pecans, or walnuts and enjoy!
