Last season Chicago Bulls fans had something to believe in with the first return of Rose; however, it did not last long as he tore his right meniscus not even a quarter way through the season. Without Rose, the Bulls had to rely on Joakim Noah’s league best defense, and Jimmy Butler’s offense.

The 2014 National Basketball Association offseason was full of free-agents, trades, and star decisions. The Bulls got rid of a previous season starter, Carlos Boozer, but picked up first round draftee Doug McDermott, and NBA veteran Pau Gasol.

McDermott was drafted by the Denver Nuggets as the eleventh pick in the NBA draft, but due to a prior deal between the Bulls and Nuggets, the Bulls claimed and signed McDermott to a rookie contract

Gasol was signed by the Bulls after becoming a free-agent during the off season, but Gasol was not the only star the Bulls were after, as all-star Carmelo Anthony was also a free-agent.

Anthony had also became a free agent; however, many more teams took interest in him over Gasol, but Anthony decided to stay with the New York Knicks.

There are a lot of variables involved with Chicago which could see their season go one way or the other. If Rose stays healthy, there is a possibility of a deep playoff run and could potentially go all the way. If he gets injured, the bulls are back to relying on the defensive performance of Noah in his absence. In addition, if McDermott and Nikola Mirotic, ex-Real Madrid power forward, make an immediate impact, this season could be a special one.

Despite changing teams this summer, the Bulls will have to go through a familiar rival in LeBron James, but this time he will be playing with the Cleveland Cavaliers and some new friends, point guard Kyrie Irving and power forward Kevin Love.

However, if Chicago are going to take them on and win, then it is most likely going to happen this year as the new ‘Big Three’ get used to their new team with Irving, James and Love.

The Bulls have one of the most talented rosters in the league, spanning from the offensively talented Rose and Butler, to the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, Noah. If the Bulls can stay healthy, then they have a chance of going all the way to the NBA Finals and potentially winning the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
