Lakes Dance Team Concludes Their Season

The Lakes Dance Team had a great competition season, starting with a 1st place win at their first competition, and concluding with an 11th place finish at sectionals. They also charmed our fan sections at both football and basketball games throughout the year. For the seniors, the boys basketball game on Feb 17.  was their last time performing at Lakes Community High School.

Being a senior is bittersweet, as an upperclassmen many girls came to me for help or advice,” senior Claudia Gucwa said. “I made it my goal to listen, humble, and motivate the team in every practice and performance. During intense practices I never fail to find an opportunity for everyone to laugh, even if it was at me.”

The team’s goal this year was not about winning competitions or going to state, but about coming together as a team. Junior Mya Pfeifer feels that the team accomplished their goal and became one great unit.

“Moving forward, next year I’d assume we’ll make the same goal. The thing about dance team is to be good you can’t be individual athletes, you have to all move as one giant team,” Pfeifer said.

Unfortunately, the team’s 11th place finish at sectionals did not allow them to qualify for the state competition, but the team accomplished their goals and improved themselves as both dancers and people.

“I feel like every year, I am blown away at how much my dancers improve both in their dancing and as young women. They carry themselves with confidence in more ways than one and I am proud to be part of their journey,” Head Coach Tiffany Nix said.

The girls have grown both as teammates and as friends, and they can always count on each for support and motivation, especially during competitions.

“My favorite memory would to have be our ritual chants before every performance, they were the best reminder that you aren’t alone on the floor,” Gucwa said.

The girls worked hard and achieved their goals, making a spectacular competition season for the Lakes Community High School Dance Team.
